Tournament Rules
Everything you need to know before tip-off — arrival, parking, gyms, admission, game rules, and policies.

Arrival & Parking
Plan to arrive at least 1 hour before your first game.
Coaches and Players enter through the main floor. Parents and spectators enter through the upper level.
Player of the Game
After each game, hand the voucher to your standout athlete. Players collect their award at the Alley-Oop souvenir station.
Championship Corner
If your team finishes 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, head to the Championship Corner to pick up your rings and celebrate.
Parking
Lot 10 has the best rate and is closest to the venue. See the map below for all public parking options.

Gym Locations
All games are played at four facilities under one roof. Enter via the North Entrance.

Admission
Passes are sold at the gate. Children 6 & under are free.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Applies to all players, coaches, officials, and spectators. We're committed to a safe, respectful environment.
Respect
Treat all individuals with respect regardless of background, nationality, or skill level.
Fair Play
Play with integrity and sportsmanship. Cheating or unsportsmanlike conduct results in immediate action.
Safety
No physical violence, aggression, or intimidation of any kind is permitted.
Compliance
Follow all rules set by tournament organizers and officials. Non-compliance may result in disqualification.
Positive Environment
No discrimination, harassment, or bullying under any circumstances.
No Recruiting
Clubs and coaches may not recruit players during the event.
No Tripods or Livestreaming
Tripods are not permitted. Handheld devices are OK for photos and recording — no live streaming.
⚠ Consequences for Violations
- Player ejection from the game
- Team forfeiture of the match
- Coach suspension or expulsion from the tournament
- Spectator removal from the venue
- Legal action, if necessary
Refund Policy
All refund requests must be submitted in writing to info@alleyoopbasketball.com.
50% Refund
Refund requests submitted between 4 weeks and 2 weeks before the tournament receive a 50% refund of registration fees.
No Refund
No refunds issued for requests made within 2 weeks of the tournament — except for extenuating circumstances (medical/family emergencies).

Calgary High School FIBA rules apply, with the modifications below.

Game Format
- Warm-up: 5–10 minutes (shortened if tournament is running behind)
- 1st Half: 24 minutes (23 run + 1 stop), 1 timeout
- Halftime: 3 minutes — one player from each team can shoot the "Splash For Cash" half-court contest
- 2nd Half: 24 minutes (22 run + 2 stop if within 20 points), 1 timeout
- Overtime: 2 minutes stop-time, 1 timeout
- Additional OT: First to score wins — starts with jump ball, no timeouts
Special Rules
- FIBA shot clock — offensive rebounds reset to 14 seconds
- Bonus starts on the 8th foul (one shot for 2 points)
- Fouled on 2-point attempt: one shot for 2 points
- Fouled on 3-point attempt: one shot for 3 points
- Fouled and shot made: one shot for 1 point
- Technical or unsportsmanlike: automatic 2 points + ball at half
- No pressing at 20-point lead (excludes HS Platinum divisions)
- Mercy rule at 40 points — score kept on paper only
- No zone defence in U11 and U13 divisions
U11 Modifications
- Foul line is 3 feet closer
- No intentional double-teaming or trapping
- Platinum & Gold: 5-on-5, 10-foot baskets
- Silver & Bronze: 4-on-4, 8.5-foot baskets
- Pressing allowed in Boys Platinum only
- No zone defence — uphold the spirit of the rule
Forfeit Rule
- 5-minute grace period (counts toward guaranteed games)
- Forfeit score: 20–0 for the winning team
Any team forfeiting without extenuating circumstances may be removed from the tournament with no refund and could be barred from future Alley-Oop events.
Technical Fouls
- 2 technicals in one game = ejection for the rest of the game + 1-game suspension
- 3 total technicals in the tournament = ineligible for the remainder of the event
- Player technicals count toward personal & team fouls
- Coach technicals count toward team fouls
- Spectator misconduct results in a team technical and possible removal (no refunds)
Pool Play Tie-Breakers
In order: better record → head-to-head → total point differential (max 20/game) → points against → coin toss.
Age Divisions
No overage players permitted. Bring valid proof of age — government ID or birth certificate.
General Rules
Multi-Team Play
Players cannot play on multiple teams within the same age division. Players may play in different age divisions if they are the appropriate birth year.
✓ Allowed: A player may play on a U15 team and be called up to U18 (not down) to support the older team.
✗ Not Allowed: A player cannot play in both U15 Bronze and U15 Gold.
Recruiting Players
Actively recruiting players from other teams is forbidden during the event — including using players or parents to speak to other parties. Reports of recruiting behaviour may affect future event acceptance based on past reports, intentions, and severity.
